Event: ノスタルジックカー Skyline Festival 2011 @ Fuji Speedway v.1

Throughout the year, ノスタルジックカーショー (Nostalgic Car Show), hosts a series of events for classic makes of cars – included in this series is the beloved Nissan Skyline.  Every year hundreds of Skyline owners and tuners gather to share each others passion for the Skyline.  These one make car shows are great for getting an in-depth look at the history of the model, as well as capturing the individual creativity of each owner.  Fuji Speedway was host to the event this year, and as usual, the owners had the opportunity to take their cars out on track.  Click past the break for coverage.

Upon entering the grounds, you’re immediately treated to an eyeful of nostalgia.  The first row of Love Skylines offer you a trip down memory lane, and for the older folk, takes them back to their youth in the late 60’s and early 70’s.  The lineup of C10’s is a great way to start the show.

A closer look reveals that the Watanabe Eight Spokes are a great, and popular, wheel choice for these cars.

A car turns into more than just a car when it has survived for more than half a century.  It’s truly special when people of all ages can share their experiences that are linked to this one make of car; be it the classic C110 ‘Kenmeri’ or the new R35.

I thought this Calsonic replica R31 was pretty sweet.  Needs some beefier tires though if it’s gonna hit the track!  I wonder how he attached those tailgate fasteners to the taillight plastic?!

A few decades later and we arrive here – a matte black R35 GTR.  Now this looks like it’s ready to run on Fuji.

Here’s a pretty sweet combo.  I really like that subtle hood scoop on the R32.

How’s this for variety? It’s like a Skyline grocery store…whatever that means…

This was one of the coolest R33’s in attendance.  ATTKD always makes some aggressive looking cars.  Hope to see this on the track later! ;)

A sunny Japanese day, a parking lot full of Skylines, and a raceway screaming with race cars – what a great way to spend the afternoon with your family.  Looks like the owner of the blue R34 in the background was thinking the same thing.

The R32 is hands down my favorite model Skyline, and this one looks exceptionally good on bronze Volks; especially with that purple paint.

An upstairs view of the grounds.  That line up of R32’s in the picture above is about as close to Heaven as I could get.  The silver on with the carbon hood looks hard!  Anyone spot that Datsun in the background?  It looks lonely.

HKS brought out their Performer R34 to show up everyone else in the power department.  This thing cranks out over 650ps!  If you checked out our Auto Salon coverage, you’ll recognize this guy.

Because the Festival is sponsored by Nissan itself, the garage area was filled with memorabilia, photos and items that told of the history of the Skyline.

They even brought out the actual desk of the ‘Father of Skyline’, Mr. Shinichiro Sakurai, who unfortunately passed away this January.  What a great way to honor the man who had so much to do with the car that everyone is celebrating.  Here’s  cool Japan fact.  The pencil holder on his desk is a  special handcrafted piece made up of several intricate layers of wood veneer.  The area of Hakone in Kanagawa is famous for this craft.  The only reason I know that is because I’ve been to a hot spring there once, and actually have a veneered box from there sitting on my desk too.  The more you know!

OK, back to Skylines!  If you didn’t know any better, you’d think this photo was taken in a parking lot somewhere in Southern California!

This peanut butter colored G35, *ahem*, Skyline, looks especially USDM inspired.

Here’s something you don’t see too often – even at a show like this.

I was going to use this file for the opening shot of the article, just because it’s so bad ass.  The profile of the R35 is simply awesome.

It’s awesome to see parents bringing their kids out to these shows.  They are planting the seeds of inspiration for the future automotive industry. This little boy seems more concerned about getting his hat to fit correctly, rather than the 17 R34s he just walked past.

Whenever there is another person taking a photo in the shot, I wonder how theirs came out.  Here is a rear view of the V-Spec II in the last shot; I’ll leave it at that for part 1 of Skyline Festival from Fuji Speedway.  I apologize for the delay in getting this first post up, but stay tuned because part 2 and 3 will be even better.  We’ll take to the asphalt and see some racing action, as well as a walk around the parking lot and take a look at some of the attendee’s rides.  Be sure to check out JDM Clips for some fresh video coverage of the event.
