Close-Up: Mugen RR Advanced Concept

.

Every once in awhile a tuner company will come out with a build that just blows me away.  Well, Mugen is more than just a tuning company, and this is more than just a build; but whatever it is, definitely blows me away.  The Mugen RR Advanced Concept is an almost 100% carbon bodied Civic RR with an extensive modification list that makes it a formidable track opponent going up against just about anything.   Check out more of what makes this beast tick past the break.

I’m really not even sure where to begin with this thing!  The carbon body in itself is an impressive feat.  I’m guessing the only reason that the rear quarter panels aren’t carbon is that, being it is one piece that travels over the tops of the door and parallels the roof, that it would have been a wicked crazy mold.  Perhaps they figured it wasn’t worth it.  After all, they had already dropped the weight to almost 200 KG’s light than the RR!

Mugen maintained similar hood vents to that of the original RR, but this time created a more open design with a cleaner bezel.  Also added were flush hood latches.

The front end is now adorned with a much more aggressive carbon front bumper.  It looks quite nothing like the original.

It now sits on a “Time Attack” version of the Mugen GP wrapped in some Bridgestone Potenza radials.  Mugen brakes of course.

The rear stays relatively unchanged, save for the carbon equivalents.

A few close-ups of the carbon pieces reveal just how intricate and well made these body parts are.   I checked these pics out in hi-res and I couldn’t find a blemished piece of carbon anywhere.  A testament to how meticulous Mugen is when creating something.

How does a 260ps civic that weighs a little over 2,400 lbs. sound?

I am happy to hear that Mugen will be back in 2012 for Tokyo Auto Salon.  With the RR Advanced being the last car they showed at TAS in 2009, it’s anyone’s guess what they will have this year.  We’re hoping for a CR-Z RR!  Whatever it may be, I’m sure it will be just as awesome.  Thanks for visiting.  Be sure to check out JDM Clips for video coverage!
