Now days people spend too much time talking about why they’re cool and why you’re not. The Tokyo Auto Salon brings every style together under one roof and shares it with the world. Surely we can all appreciate each others cars more than once a year, can’t we?

One for the Honda fans; HKS, among many other vehicles this year, brought out the same S2000 they had at SEMA 2011 here in the states.   Dubbed the AP350SC-II Concept, (derived from the chassis code, the amount of power it produces, and the main power adder) this S2000 is host to a whole lineup of newly developed HKS parts.  Namely, the  GTS7040 supercharger that’s attached to the F22.  Click past the break for a close-up of this beast.

The S2000 retains it’s stock body panels; they’ve just been plastered with paint and vinyl.  Stance is taken care of by a set of HKS HiperMax III coil-overs.  It’s actually a pretty cool livery sans the giant GT SUPER CHARGER decal on the side and hood.  It sits atop a set of 18″ Advan RZ-DFs with polished lips.  You’re probably wondering why they lifted the rear end up and threw a mirror underneath…..no?

It’s to give you a good look at HKS’ new SSM (Super Sound Master) Exhaust system.  A lightweight exhaust that highlights the distinct, high rpm sound of VTEC.  In conjunction with the new SSM, HKS has also developed a new hi-flow catalytic converter – the HKS Metal Catalyzer.  Sounds like some kind of atomic weapon.

The exhaust gives an almost stock appearance from the rear.  A good attribute for those going for that low profile look.

The front end of the S2000 is a little bit more business.  Along with the creation of the HKS GTS7040 supercharger system, they also created a GT Intercooler System.  The core measure 600x244x65mm; that’s roughly 24x10x2.5 inches for us in the states.  Not giant by any means, but just the right size to get the job done and look great stuffed in that front bumper.  The supercharger system, when paired with HKS’ famous V-Cam System, makes an incredible increase in power – topping out at 354 ps.

A closer look at the Advan’s, wrapped in Yokohama S-Drives.  Braking power is provided by an Endless Racing 4 pot caliper clamped around Endless 2-piece rotors.  I like the ‘Japan Made’ stamp on the Advans.  Power is transferred via HKS’ new LA Clutch – a single disc capable of handling up to 380 ps and 46 kgfm of torque.  Exceptional for a single plate.

Engine management is handled by HKS’ new, prototype Flash Editor.  Not too much information on this new ECU yet…

D2 Japan, all knowing brake and suspension producers, brought out their joint built R34 rocking their massive 8-pot caliper kit up front, and 6-pot rears.  The front calipers barely clear the 19″ TE-37 SL’s!  With engine works handled by Pro Shop SCREEN, this R34GTR is one serious car.  With the R35′s new dominance in the Skyline tuning market, it’s awesome to see tuners still concentrating on older models.  Let’s click the break and check out more of this 34, compliments of the magic from JDM Clips.

Good choice on the Nismo Z-Tune aero.  Nissan nailed it with this OEM offering – it’s that delicate balance between aggressive, useful and not overbearing.  The HKS V-Cam, GT-RS equipped RB pumps out close to 500 hp at 7500 rpm  – sufficient enough I’d say.  A F-Con V Pro helps manage the fuel while an ARC front mount provides the chilly air.

Bear with me on this post; there’s a possibility that I could still be a little intoxicated.  I’ll keep the grammar in check as best as I can.  It seems like Nissan has lost the battle in trying to keep the R35 GTR a machine that needs no modification.  In the hands of the Japanese elite tuners, nothing is sacred.  Take, for example, the GReddy 35RX; a machine so deconstructed, that it retains little to no trace of the original form.  I want to show you something pretty amazing – so click past the break.

Before I go any further, you should read the numbers up there.  Utilizing the GReddy RX 4.3l stroker kit and GReddy TD06-20G turbo, and a grip of other GReddy gear, this R35′s VR makes over 1,200 hp.  No replacement for displacement right?  OK, now that we’ve established the severity of this build, we can continue on with the photos.

So, by now, you’re wondering what the bay looks like I’m sure.  Feast your eyes upon the power plant of such a beast.  I love the domestic inspired intake plenums (think LS7)…whether or not they’re domestic inspired is up to debate.  Either way, they look bad ass.

The first of several noticeable modifications has to be the one-piece front fascia.  Hinged on the bottom of the front bumper, the hood assembly lifts forward – to reveal the built VR.

The 20″, flat black Prodrive GC-01 wheels wrapped in Dunlop rubber add to the already menacing look of the car.  Titanium gilled fenders and an exhaust port behind the front wheels give it an almost Super GT like feel.  GReddy has yet to develop a brake kit for the GTR35, so an Endless kit takes its place behind the front wheels.

The Bensopra body kit widens that rear end up quite a bit, while the Top Secret diffuser buttons everything up nicely.  I love the chassis mounted rear wing!  You can see in the background there that GReddy even brought out a built bicycle.  Why not right?

I love to see all out  builds like this; it shows that the heavy hitters haven’t lost the drive to push development of new ideas.  I remember hearing about the Bensopra kit a while back, but up until now, I’ve never seen it on another companies demo car.  It’s really quite impressive.

While a little unrealistic for most R35 owners, the 4.3 liter stroker kit is no doubt a power maker.  Combined with with the tuning technology of GReddy and you have one formidable power maker.  The out of car display VR is very impressive, and allows potential buyers to become jealous as they envision it sitting in their personal engine bays.  I’m not sure I want to know what the cost is.  Not like it matters anyway because I don’t own a R35.  Hope you enjoyed this awesome build.  Be sure to sneak up on JDM Clips and view the awesome videos!  Thanks for visiting!

You didn’t think HKS would touch a van would you?  Well, they did, and this is the outcome.  Not too sure about specs on this thing, but it is the newer ‘Veilfire’ model of the Toyota Alphard – marketed towards a younger generation.  Of course, it’s natural to develop for the latter.  HKS’ awesome-van is lowered on their signature HiperMax coilovers, as seen through the hole in the fender.  Click past the break for another pic.

Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, you’ll notice that this thing sits simliar to the K-Break cars – well, then it should come as no surprise that it sits on a set of K-Break Hybreed Fivesta wheels; a must for wicked stance.  So, how’s that to end your Wednesday night?  Or, in the case of most of the people who read this, start your Thursday?  This kind of build just scratches the surface of VIP in Japan.  Every time the US thinks we’re catching up in terms of build quality, Japan just comes right out and smashes.  This is pretty gimmicky too…Stay tuned for more TAS 2012!

I’ve been wanting to do something kinda cool for a while now to show my thanks for the fans of Narita Dog Fight.  So I’ve come up with a little, hopefully, monthly contest in the form of an Option magazine giveaway.  Today, I introduce to you the “NDF’s ‘Old Option – Let’s Read Car History!’ Giveaway”.  Like the super Japanese title?  I do!  I wrote in the official NDF Facebook page that I’ve been collecting Option and Option2 magazines for a really long time; actually, I collect other publications as well!  Perhaps I can give away more than just Option mags in the future.  Anyway, I have duplicates of some and I’d like to send them off to people who share the same excitement I get from receiving and reading (or if you can’t read Japanese, looking at) an Option mag.  Much of my knowledge of Japanese car culture and motor sports has come from reading these magazines, and because of that, they’ve become more than just magazines to me.  Hopefully the same will happen to you!

The first offering is actually not that old at all!  June 2011′s Option magazine features coverage from last years Exciting Car Showdown, including a section just covering girl owned cars from the event (ガールズ コレクション), a wicked spread of the Kazama Auto Service D1 Silvia featuring model Mirei Kurosawa, a cool write up on aero testing, a R35 tuning update, and a somber article featuring some garages that were effected by the disaster in March.  This is a good one, and it just so happens that I have two of this volume to give away; so let’s get sharing!  頑張ってください!

OK, everyone close your eyes.  On the count of three, open them and bestow upon yourself one of the most intense RX-7 builds to date.   Ready?  OK, 1…2…3…open!  You peaked didn’t you?  Anyway, pick your jaws up from the floor so I can continue this post.  Every time I think this guy has outdone himself, he comes through with yet another build for the books.  The RE Amemiya built NA Super-7 is hands down one of the greatest FD builds I’ve seen to date.  The beauty, of course, lies in the extensive body work that Isami Amemiya is known for.  Click past the break to get up close and personal with the curves – courtesy of JDM Clips.

Let’s pull back a bit on that opening shot.  Honestly, I’m not even sure where to begin with this thing.  I thought last year when I went to TAS that RE-Amemiya had outdone themselves with their ‘Revolution’ booth rocking multiple 7′s and one crazy 8 that they brought out.  Well, they came back in 2012 swinging hard.  I mean, you sort of expect this kind of thing from Amemiya-san now, but this blows me out of the water.  I’ve always been on the fence as far as Amesan’s builds go, but this one is too smooth not to like.

If I had to critique this car in some way, I would probably have to address the front end first.  On one hand, I love how the hood and fenders actually become part of the front fascia.  The negative side of that is that it begins the flow of the car too abruptly; almost as if the front could be the rear.  I am a fan of the huge vents in both the front and rear that expose the tires on both ends.

Facing the car head on gives the front end an entirely different look.  I can’t imagine the hours that went in to making this car’s body panels so perfect.  It seems that not one of the original pieces exists.

Same story around back.  It becomes apparent just how much wider the body is that OEM when you view it from the rear.  Huge vents in the rear bumper and integrated taillights play into the theme of the build.

You’d be wrong if you said this was just a show car though.  Like typical Japanese builds, the engine get’s the full treatment as well.  In this case, the NA Super-7 gets a fully tuned 13B-REW.

The Hyper Black Enkei GTC01′s fit not only the style of car, but the color as well.  I love how the body wraps to hugs the wheel and tire.
