Close Up: Spoon AP1

.

Way before the build of the iconic Grand Prix White AP2 demo car, Spoon had built their AP1 race car.  The S2000, hailed as one of the greatest roadsters ever built.  It would seem almost sacrilegious for the masters of Honda tuning to not bless one with their precision.  A few years ago I got the chance to visit Spoon and see for myself the craftsmanship that went into this build.

.

.

The precision and accuracy of Spoon is unbelievable; as if every part of the car were in sync with one another.  Here you can see how perfect the offset is, and how the fender just gently blankets the Potenzas that are wrapped around the ever-classy Volk RE-30’s.

.

.

This car screams function in every way.  This chassis has endured timeless road race events, including 24hr endurance races.

.

.

The symbol of Spoon; the crane.  In the taillight, you can see a reflection of one of their touring style Integra builds that was also squeezed into the tiny office.

.

.

Partial down-force is provided by the GT style wing that adorns the trunk.

.

.

Knowledge, accuracy and an entire catalog of parts enrich the F20 at the front.  I stared at this car for about 30 minutes and still couldn’t take in how great it is.  I have to also state that the two people in the office were very cool to let us wander the place and take whatever pictures we liked.  They also loaded us up with goodies and sent us on our way down the street to Type-One.
