Locale: ASM Yokohama

.

One thing that continually amazes me about Japan is the sheer density of the place.  You can spend a month contained in a one mile radius and still not see everything.  I find myself in Yokohama quite often and was surprised that I had never been to ASM before.  Under the arm of the Autobacs flagship name, ASM Yokohama offers not only specialized S2000 parts and tuning, but probably the best selection of Recaro seats you’ll ever find; short of catching a flight to Germany.  I took a brief tour of the shop last time I was in the area – check out the pics past the break.  “To the stage that no one could reach.  Yes, we can!”

.

Hard to miss the place with a sign that large.

.

.

The parking lot is to the left of the shop – I wonder if that Merc wagon is a company car courtesy of Recaro.  It’s next to an AM PM convenient store.  The AM PM had vending machines outside of it for small Gundam figures.  I plopped down 200 円 for one and it ate my money.

.

.

The showroom is pretty impressive; a very clean appearance.  It manages to maintain that Japanese minimalistic style while still displaying hundreds of different items.

.

.

Among the catalog offered Recaros’, they had some special ASM Edition Recaro buckets.  Both reclining and fixed back.  I’d take a wild guess and say that they are tailored to fit in a S2000.

.

.

Even the little ones aren’t overlooked.  Nothing is more precious than new life, so why not protect it properly.  If you have kids, do us all a favor and buy a Recaro baby seat.  Style & safety!  Check out the Recaro gradient pillow on the couch.  Cool!

.

.

Venture a little deeper into the shop and you realize that ASM is more than just pretty seats.  This fully built F was on display showcasing some ASM custom parts; including ITB’s and a full titanium exhaust.

.

.

Let’s take a closer look…

.

The craftsmanship and welding is insanely good on these parts.  It’s to be expected though of Japanese engines running at such tolerances.

.

.

Such nice things come at a hefty price though…

.

.

Being so involved with the AP chassis, I was surprised to see this sitting in the showroom.  Without rolling over the image, can anyone tell me what this came out of? ;P

.

.

!!  Triple action !!

.

.

F22 Stroker Kit in one of the display cases – I almost whipped out the credit card for this haha.

.

.

$10,000 coilovers anyone?  SACHS!  This is the same kit that Kanayama-san used on ASM’s time attack S2000 – which happened to be at the shop when we were there!

.

.

A fairly odd assortment of products hanging on the wall.  The shop had a couple DSLR’s sitting on tripods just chilling around different parts of the shop.  Maybe shooting for their online shop.

.

.

I stood in the back corner of the shop and took a little overview of the whole showroom.  From left…

.

.

…to the right.  Here you can see the garage portion of the building.  Two lifts occupied the cramped work space.

.

.

Who would of thought that the Nissan guy would get bored at a Honda shop.  Could this be the first Mexican to visit ASM since they opened in 2005?

.

.

Some super wide ASM Edition ProDrive wheels – all the sets are labeled.

.

.

More than likely to be used on this guy.  The Autobacs ASM Yokohama time-attack S2000 – sans the crazy aero kit it uses at the track.  Last power figure I heard was around 315 wheel hp!

.

.

Another camera…what the hell are these for?

.

.

A customer car getting the worked on.  You can get a desktop of this shot in the wallpaper section.

.

.

While walking back to the station we cam across this Fugu restaurant with a pink mini-bike for sale outside.  We stopped to check it out and the chef came out to try and talk us into buying it for the equivalent of about $400.  I politely told him we lived rather far away, and that as much as we would like to own it, didn’t have the means of riding it home =P

.

.

Not to mention how awkward we’d look carrying it onto the subway…

Hope you enjoyed the ASM tour!  Check back for part 2 of the 2011 Mugen Circuit Challenge coverage.
