Feature: Johnny’s 559 EK

.

Elementary.  The basics.  Simplicity.  Classicality.  Yes, that last one is actually a word.  All these words can sum up the look of Johnny’s fresh hatchback.  It’s almost more about the things he chose not to do, then what he did do that makes this EK so clean.  It’s a nice change from the over adorned, gaudy looking masses that make up the majority of modified cars these days.  Johnny lives in my hometown, and we met through theJDM awhile ago.  This is his second build and I’ve been wanting to shoot it for some time now, so I caught up with him at Eibach.  It’s tough to get creative shots at a car show, so consider this a preview to a more worthy future write-up.  Enjoy the pics past the break.

I suppose the first thing you’d notice is how absurdly low the car sits.  He’s got the damage to show for it too – courtesy of the 405.  He drove it at this height all the way from Visalia.

The SiR front end adds that subtle touch of class that you can only find in OEM parts.  The I GOTTA P license plate throws it all out the window.

Matching rear bumper and mud guards round up the look in the back.  Various JDM touches like the thin side moldings, CTR mirrors, side-markers and window visors tie the profile of the car together.

The interior remains relatively untouched, with the exception of a few choice mods.  One being the rare the Top Fuel pillar bars.

A close up of the 16″ RegaMasters.  The white wheels match the grey (gray?) paint quite well.

Johnny has two stickers on the entire car.  Quite uncommon these days where vinyl comes and goes more often than Greg Laswell (you might have to look into that one).  This is probably the reason this car appeals to me.  As of right now, the engine remains stock, however a simple B-series swap is next on the to-do list.  Sticking with the whole theme of less is more.

Peace!  Look forward to a more legitimate shoot of this car soon, and perhaps some other cars from the 559 as well.  Thanks Johnny – nice to see you again, and keep up the good builds.
