Event: Formula D – Drifts Cars In Static

.

As I type this I’m watching the qualifying of the F1 Chinese Grand Prix, and Vettel just got pipped in Q2.  He’ll start the race in 11th place; It’ll be interesting to see how he can pull himself through the pack.  On a semi-related note, I get to watch Rubens Barichello race his Indy car around the streets of Long Beach tomorrow afternoon;  I couldn’t be more excited about that.  Lastly, on a note more related than the first, here is some more coverage from Formula D in Long Beach this past weekend.  I mentioned before that I didn’t have a media pass, so I apologize for not having action shots, but hopefully you’ll enjoy this look at some of the drift cars in the pits and at the show.  Click past the break for more.

.

Ken Gushi’s new Toyota 86..err..Scion FR-S.  Whatever you want to call it, it’s a nice change from the cars we are used to seeing in Formula D.  The Gram Lights look great on it as well.

.

.

Amateur Formula D driver Gallagher’s teal coupe.  I don’t believe he made it to Top 32 on Friday.

.

.

Ryan Bell’s S13.5 – also did not make it to Top 32

.

Not everyone makes it out of Long Beach unscathed; as you can see from D’Allesio’s Nissan…

.

.

Another Nissan that shows signs of battle damage.  Not nearly as bad as the previous though.  Rosberg is sitting Q1 right now and just parked the car with a 1:35.121.  It would be great if he could take pole for Mercedes.  Completely unrelated to this.

Session 3’s time is up and only a few are on hot laps.  Hamilton is in the pits at Q2, so with a 5 spot penalty, he’ll start the race in 7th.  And with that Mercedes takes it’s first pole since 1955!!  Way to go Rosberg!  Oh yeah, and here is Corey Hosford’s Supercharged Zombie machine.

.

The WedSports look great.

.

.

This car definitely looks the part, but I wonder how it performs.  I never got a chance to see it run.

.

.

.

Pollard’s coupe lookin’ good in the hot Long Beach sun.

.

.

Buckey Laing’s BN Sports kitted FC – sitting Vegas spec.

.

.

Walker’s very bright S14 fronted coupe.  Awesome flame graphics.

.

.

Dai’s beefy S13 at rest in the pits.  I’m really into his new line of wheels.  Interested to see what other designs they come up with.

.

.

The V8 BOSO S15 in it’s new, errrr, politically correct livery.  Cool peoples.

.

.

Yoshioka doing something very Japanese-like in front of his RSR S15.

A close look at my Formula D hero Matt Power’s new S14.  I like the new livery – it’s much more themed than his last year’s car.  Although I understand sponsorship, I still kind of wish he was still rocking Volks.  Check out the new double caliper setup in the rear – E-brake mania.

I asked Matt after his Top 32 run how the new chassis felt and he mentioned it felt much better than his old one.  Remember up until this year, he had been using his original S14 chassis.  After years of abuse in all different venues, the old chassis must have been more than fatigued.  He took a solid 4th in Long Beach, but shows potential for some more podiums in 2012.  If anything, he’d definitely win for coolest helmet.  Hope you enjoyed the shots!  Thanks for visiting.
