Event: AutoCon 2012 Los Angeles – Roll In

.

When I started the drive out to Arcadia for AutoCon yesterday morning, I had been under the strange impression that media will-call was at 9am; where I got that impression and why I thought it was perfectly normal I’m still not sure.  When I got to the site and saw about 400 cars waiting to be rolled in I kind of figured I had some misinformation.  Well, there was nothing else to do really so I thought I’d make the most of it though and start snapping away.  The route into the Santa Anita grounds is through an underground route under an overpass to the Westfield mall that’s across from the park.  So I just posted up under the shade of the bridge, and did my best to avoid the already intense inland heat.  I talked to Justin from AutoCon when I saw him pass through and he had no problems with me starting early.  I’m typically late to car shows, so this was kind of cool for me.  The roll-in process was much smoother than last year, and it seems they were much better staffed this year.  Grab a cup of coffee and click past the break for the first of many Auto Connection 2012 posts.

It’s kind of hard to tell, but this S2000 was wearing SSR SP1’s in their new-ish Spectrum Silver color.  I’m still not too sure what to think about it, but in the sun it definitely stood out.  So, I suppose if you’re trying to stand out, it’s a good thing.

The sun was casting all sorts of shadows that day, making photo taking somewhat cumbersome.  You can see what I mean on this gold Supra from ‘it’s jdm yo’.  Which I really like!

I’ve been getting pretty lenient on posting Euro’s up on the site haha!  This one has Voltex aero bits so it’s all good ~  This think looks mean!  How could I ignore a turbocharged E46 M3…?

.

.

A couple cars from the NUISANCE crew waiting patiently, and not being a nuisance at all.  I’ve always enjoyed seeing that 240 around – it’s so low.

.

That ‘stance’ stuff.

.

.

High End Performance widebody Supra.  This thing is a car show staple.

.

.

Moto Miwa was hanging with the Beat Sonic guys throughout the show.  He says that those grey Competitions are just loaner wheels until he gets his set in.   Totally unrelated, but there were a lot of Fig Beetles flying around under the overpass.  It was funny to watch people get scared as hell and run away from them.  I caught one and showed them they were harmless; those things are all over the airport.

R35 on mag blue wheels.  Yes, I’m already running out of captions.

Supra bros.

I think this a cool shot for several reasons.  First off, it looks like the set of Fast and the Furious 8; nothing more to say about that.  Secondly, I think this was all the cars from High End Performance that showed that day.  Lastly, you can kind of get the gist of how hot it was already, and it was only about 9:30 AM.  The heat waves against the palm trees in the background give you an idea of how much I was already sweating.  I wore jeans and a long sleeve button up for some reason – it was cloudy in Long Beach!

.

I liked the yellow LED things in the bumper of this S2000.  Looks like the guy driving is upset that I took a picture of it haha

.

.

This is the Integra in the opening shot.  Some of my favorite Hondas at the show were all the Integras from Loi-Spec.  They were all just really the style I like, and used at the track too.

Sparkle power from the Royal Flush Aristo.

Supra calipers on this Lexus.

I’m pretty sure you’ve all seen this car before.  It’s all over the internet and I whored it out on my Wekfest LA 2012 coverage as well.

.

.

So…yeah.  Function vs. Form I suppose.  Let the debate begin…

.

.

A very low Subaru on Equips.

I chatted with this guy for a little bit at the show, and I have to admit, I forgot his name already.  Kyle, or Kevin…I think.  He’s a cool guy and this is his first show.  He painted the car himself, but mentioned it still needs a wet-sand.  I liked it so much I gave him a sticker – super J style.

Look, Skittles!  Except the green and orange ones are stale because they’re from an old package, and the purple one can be that new color that everyone gets to vote on…but I think purple is a normal Skittles color.  So…whatever, I don’t know.

.

Don’t you just hate it when you’re in your S2000 race car and stuck in car show traffic behind a NSX…

.

.

White-out.  Brightest RX8 on the planet.  I like those front fenders.

.

.

More sparkle power from Royal Flush – this time in Subaru flavor.

By this time I had pretty much made my way halfway to the other gate where will-call was.  When I got there and checked in, I think it was already 173 degrees outside, so I asked the lovely ladies at the booth if it was OK if I stood under their canopy for a few minutes to get a much needed rest from the blazing sun.  They had nothing going on yet so they happily obliged.  After my rest, at about 1030AM, I made my way into the grounds to weed out the good stuff out of about 500 cars.  On that note, I’ll wrap up the roll-in coverage to AutoCon 2012 – Surface of the Sun Arcadia…I mean Los Angeles.  Thanks for visiting, and stay tuned for more.
