Encounter: COCKPIT T Four built Nissan S15

.

COCKPIT is a huge company known for more than just aftermarket builds.  This particular S15 was built by the COCKPIT shop in Tatebayashi, located in the Gunma prefecture of Japan.  Any Initial D fans out there? Anyway, this shop is split up into a few ‘divisions’ for a lack of better terms.  Each of these divisions concentrate on one particular aspect of vehicle modification.  I had to kick off the TAS 2012 coverage with a little Encounter with this machine; there are so many things about it that I like that I had to highlight it outside of the regular coverage.  Click past the break for more.  Let’s go!

If I remember correctly, the COCKPIT booth is sitting right next to where the D-Max booth was last year – and in fact, the D-Max booth is in pretty much the same place.  You can kind of see Nakamura’s S15 in the background of this shot.  The overall look of this car is great.  The color combination, aero choices and wheel choice all flow together perfectly.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen such a subtle color scheme come out of Japan’s tuning scene.  If you know what you’re looking at, you can see that this car has a plethora of different aero brands on it and I think they did a good job of making it all flow.  BN Sports, D-Max, Carrosser, and Vertex pieces are all present.  Can you tell which pieces are which?

The HKS built 2.2 liter SR20DET is equipped with a newer GT 3037S turbo unit from HKS, I’m sure this thing has no problem spooling up to full boost.  3037S’s are good for making power in the mid to high 400 range, so it’s safe to say that this particular S15 has plenty of power – and with SARD 850cc injectors, it probably has no fuel starvation either.

COCKPIT also had their R34 on display.  I figured I’d throw this in with the S15 because I know you guys would ask about it.  Anyway, stay tuned for more coverage of TAS 2012!  I like to show you guys specifics about each car, rather than just throw a compilation of shots together.  Hope you enjoy!  Stick around for our ‘Old Option Magazine’ giveaway coming this week along with more TAS!
