Event: Tokyo Auto Salon 2011 v.3

.

I hope you guys are still with me on this coverage!  I know it’s taking awhile, but I’m busy with work.  I’ll begin this post with a few shots of this slammed R33 clad in an anime livery.  To my surprise, there were a lot of ‘Itasha’ styled cars at the Salon.  For those who are unaware of this movement, Itasha is a term used to describe the otaku fad of modifying cars in an anime or manga theme; mainly with giant decals on the exterior.  I’ve already admitted to my liking it for reasons unknown to me.  It’s become quite popular in Japan recently, and there are regularly held meets throughout Tokyo.  This particular Skyline was wrapped in 萌えコレ!(Moe Colle) vinyl.  三栄書房 (San-Ei Shobo) is a huge Japanese magazine publisher.  If you’re a fan of this car, check out the wallpaper section.  Click past the break for more.

.

The Works fill up those fenders nicely.  I hate to admit it, but I would probably drive this thing around LA…

.

.

…and as I got crazy looks from bystanders, and was called names, I would downshift into 2nd and smoke um’ all out!  I’d have plenty of power with the RB26…

.

.
The car also came equipped with it’s own cosplay model.

.

.

Keeping on with the Skyline, let’s head over to the URAS booth.  They had two R34’s on display, one coupe and one sedan.  The sedan was done up in a little more mild fashion, but still had that unmistakable URAS look.

.

.

I couldn’t get a great shot of the whole car, but you can get the gist.  Nomuken helps come up with some crazy aero designs.

.

.

My favorite piece of this kit was the rear wing.

.

.

I was expecting the typical RB, so I was shocked to find a Q45 engine sitting in the bay.  The swap was beyond immaculate.  Almost looked like original equipment.

.

.

In addition to the 350Z I posted this morning, Final Konnexion also had this 180SX on display.  One of the very few S-Chassis at the whole show.  It was pretty sweet; and not only because it was rocking sparkle paint.

.

.

The only Z32 at the show was pink!  It had full pink interior too.  The girls loved it.

.

.

I’ve already seen quite a few photos of this Crown police car floating around the internet.

.

.

It has a hybrid badge on the trunk; I wonder what engine it has?  I also wonder where Car Sense got all the police issued swag?!

.

.

Speaking of hybrids, check out the engine in this Sunny!

.

.

We stopped for a late lunch, and took some time to spread a little NDF love to Tokyo.

.

.

The championship winning 5-Zigen Type R was there, and when you see it up close, you can really see how much effort was put into this car.  I particularly liked the front exit exhaust.

.

.

A look in the back reveals 4 fuel pumps!  Does this mean one for each injector?  Correct me if I am wrong on this…

.

.

A shot of the packed bay that houses the turbocharged K-series.

.

.

Rotary tuner and time attack attendees PanSpeed were in attendance with a couple bright yellow FDs.

.

.

Among them was the infamous Time Attack FD that consistently places in the top 5 in various time attacks.  To see this car in person was pretty special.

.

.

The extremely wide, vented fenders give the RX7 a menacing stance.

.

.

A shot from the rear.  I think I like it better with beefier tires.

.

.

At Work, I immediately went to the Meister display.  By far the best line of wheels Work has ever produced.

.

.

This set in-particular were ridiculous.

.

.

Volk had an equally impressive display.  They had this IS on mismatched colors.

.

.

It was cool to see VeilSide there after an almost 5 year hiatus.  They had some pretty crazy things on display.  Quite a bit of European cars.

.

.

Daijiro says, “Why not stick around for even more coverage!?”  Nah, he doesn’t….but I will have a few more posts coming.  Including a post dedicated to Super GT cars, and a RH9 Alley Special!  Hope you’re enjoying the photos, I’ve saved the best for last.
