Event: Formula D – Drifts Cars In Static

.

As I type this I’m watching the qualifying of the F1 Chinese Grand Prix, and Vettel just got pipped in Q2.  He’ll start the race in 11th place; It’ll be interesting to see how he can pull himself through the pack.  On a semi-related note, I get to watch Rubens Barichello race his Indy car around the streets of Long Beach tomorrow afternoon;  I couldn’t be more excited about that.  Lastly, on a note more related than the first, here is some more coverage from Formula D in Long Beach this past weekend.  I mentioned before that I didn’t have a media pass, so I apologize for not having action shots, but hopefully you’ll enjoy this look at some of the drift cars in the pits and at the show.  Click past the break for more.

Event: Drift Exhibition at Tsukuba Circuit

.

I drove back to my hometown this weekend to attend my friend’s wedding.  I was looking forward to relaxing at home for a day or so and getting some work done on the website.  Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.  It seems like whenever I go home, I’m pulled in 100 different directions; and there’s never enough time.  Needless to say, NDF was M.I.A for the past couple days.  Before I turn in for the night I thought I’d throw this post together real quick.  During the Hot Version N2 Race at Tsukuba Circuit, the guys over at Drift Muscle, as well as some D1SL contenders, put together a little drifting exhibition.  Check it out past the break – and catch video at JDM Clips.

Driftworks‘ own Phil Morrison and James Robinson, along with some crazy dudes from Garage Portello, decided they would go video ballistic on the Japanese drift scene.  The result?  Outsiders; a hour and a half long, HD drift extravaganza.  Check out the trailer, be amazed, and then click past the break for more info.  If you enjoy drifting, Japan, or drifting in Japan in the slightest amount, you should buy this movie.

Throwback: D1GP Returns To America (2005)

In 2004, the sport of drifting had become commercialized enough, that promoters knew it was time to bring it overseas.  D1GP was introduced in America with the start of the USA vs. Japan series that took place at Irwindale Speedway.  My friend sent these over to me recently, and I figured since Formula D just wrapped up the season at Irwindale, it would be a good time to post these up.  Needless to say, the heavy hitters from Japan look much younger!  Hopefully they invoke some nostalgia into you guys and we can all remember what this sport is really about.
