Gallery: American Muscle in Japan – Feras Qartoumy’s Twin Turbo Z06

Hearing the deep rumble of an American built V8 down the straight at Tsukuba Circuit is something you don’t get to experience too often. It’s not completely unheard of, there are a few Corvettes that frequent Tsukuba that are owned by drivers here. Shigeto Nagashima’s 600hp, NA Z06 that is tuned by Advance Auto, consistently runs in the 57 second range. There is also Takayuki Matsumoto, usually seen in his matte pink RWB 993 ‘Phoenix’, who sometimes subs in his Chevy Service Miki tuned C6. With all that being said, Tsukuba has never seen American muscle quite like this. After WTAC, Feras shipped his 1,300hp, twin turbo Corvette straight to Japan, where it now resides at Under Suzuki’s shop near Sagamihara. Over the past few weeks, Feras, supported by the friendly guys at Hoosier, have been working out the intricacies of Tsukuba’s TC2000 circuit and dialing in the car more and more with each event. After his third outing, he successfully put himself in the top ten fastest tuning car times at the track – 9th overall with a 53.191.

Even Under had a drive in the Z06, albeit on the lowest power setting, and had a lot of positive feedback and feeling to pass on to the team. We caught up with them at the most recent Unlimited Works track day last week to get a closer look at the Corvette.

The car is powered by a late model 427 engine built with a 2000 horsepower package using twin Garrett G35-900 turbos.  On low boost setting, the V8 is set to produce 800 horsepower, and at high boost produces 1,300 horsepower.  The car is typically tuned to make 1,100 hp.  The 1:1 6 speed sequential six-gear sequential results in a top speed of 185mph generally.  A Bosch Motorsports ABS and 380mm/355mm Pro-System Alcon brake kit with PMU NASCAR pads ensure the car is stopped from a full sprint.  The carbon-kevlar body was produced by HGK with the aero package being designed by Verus Engineering.  The car currently weighs 2640 pounds and Feras is running a 335 series Hoosier A7.
