Close-Up: Arios X Okuyama F16° Time Attack FD3S

There were many RX-7’s on hand the other week at Tsukuba Circuit; all in a fierce battle to claim the quickest lap around Tsukuba’s 2 mile stretch.  The battle of the tuner’s unfolded throughout the day, as various time attack builds shot their way around the 14 corners of the circuit at top speed.  Among them was the Arios Okuyama Auto Sports FD3S.  This purpose built machine was among those in the dogfight on track, and surprisingly enough, did quite well against the heavy hitters – managing a best time of 58.818.  JDM Clips was on hand to get a closer look at this build.  Click past the break to see more.

Encounter: YF☆戸辺POWER – Yellow Factory EG6 at Tsukuba Circuit

To this day, the  ‘Encounter’ post I did on the Yellow Factory EG6 at last year’s Tokyo Auto Salon has been the most popular post on this site with over 137 shares.  I’m not sure what it was about it, but everyone seems to like the aggressive, all-out, time-attack style.  I like it simply because it’s consistently one of the fastest Honda’s at the track!  As of last year, the YF’s EG6 best time was a 1’01.38 – impressive right?  Well at this particular event, it managed a time of 1’00.345; crushing it’s old time by over a second!  A hero among the Honda community.  Click past the break for more shots, compliments of JDM Clips.

Event: Hot Version Live Shooting v.1 – The Tsukuba Pits

JDM Clips recently shot these last weekend during the live filming of Hot Version’s N2 and Advan Amateur Race at Tsukuba Circuit.  The Hot Version N2 AE86 event takes place every year, and has been going on for quite some time now.  This year, the Advan sponsored Fastest Amateur Tournament was combined on the same date and made for one hell of an event.  Many of the cars here are the same popular builds we see plastered on the pages of Option and Option2, as well as blogs around the globe.  The most popular tuners attend these ‘grassroots’ events to show off what they can do on the track.  Check out what Tsukuba has to offer past the break – like more of this RE built ドラえもん FD.

Close-Up: Craft Company Time Attack FD

Craft Company is, among other things, just plain awesome.  Based out of Amagasaki, a city in an industrial area in the Hyogo prefecture, Craft Company toils away under the hoods of many cars.  Included in that lineup is their CCFD35 seen here – a car heavily partnered with FEED.  CC is a regular at these events, but came to Tsukuba last weekend specifically to take part in the ‘Advan Fastest Amateur Tournament’.  There were a ton of impressive cars at this event, most of them are regular time attackers we all know and love.  Despite the stiff competition though, the CCFD35 managed a 6th place time of 57.658 around the circuit.  To give you something to compare it to, Suzuki-san’s Scorch S15 posted a blistering 54.162 second lap time.  Click past the break to check out more pics of the CC built RX7.

Close-Up: The Wheels of the Wek’

I thought it would be a cool idea to make a post from an entirely different perspective for once – or, one perspective only actually.  There were so many people at the event, that as I stanced myself down to photograph the wheels of cars, I’d always catch someones shoes in the background.  It’s a little funny if you think about it – a car’s wheels are kind of like it’s shoes.  I thought it was fitting (ha! fitting – get it?) to throw together a little post of some of the best shots that portrayed this.  Plus, I love how these shots come out with the 50mm prime, so I wanted to share anyway.  This just makes it a little more fun!  Click past the break to view the ‘shoes of the wek, starting with these yummy step-lipped Meisters!’

Event: Wekfest 2012 – Fort Mason, San Francisco v.1

According to the internet, there are currently around 800,000 or so people living in San Francisco; I think roughly half of them were at Fort Mason this past Sunday to attend Wekfest.  Yes, that is a gross exaggeration, but the Weksos crew did manage to more than oversell the show.  The massive following the show has garnered over the years resulted in an attendance number much larger than what was expected; so large in fact that the police and fire departments had to refuse entry to some people due to fire code regulations – which was obviously out of the hands of the organizers.  Other than that, from the eyes of a photographer, this show was unbelievable.  The venue is by far the coolest I’ve been to, the lighting is great, the people are all awesome, and the selection of cars was really well thought out.  Before I start the coverage I’d like to say thank you to the guys at Weksos and everyone one else involved in the organization of this show – something as large as this isn’t easy to pull off, and the hard work is appreciated.  Click past the break to kick this off.

Event: MOD – Mitsubishi Owner’s Day 2011 v.1

Disclaimer: Aside from the Evolution, I am not a fan of any model car that Mitsubishi has produced in the US.  I respect the potential of a DSM engine, but as far as aesthetics go, ugly is the word.  With that said, I should change the name of this post to ‘EOD – Evolution Owner’s Day’, because that is basically all that I shot.  For that reason, some of you may get bored with this post.  This meet had a full spectrum of Mitsu’s; everything from the cleanest built EVO’s to the worst looking and sounding Eclipses and Galant’s – no disrespect to the owners.  So if you’re looking for shots of those or more complete coverage, check out Speedhunters in the next couple days because I know Mike Garrett was there clicking away as well.  Click past the break to enjoy some shots of various Evolutions.  This post is sponsored by D-Sport, the Import Tech magazine because they gave me free stickers.  D-Sport!

Locale: UP Garage Aobodai – Wheels Highlight

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of UP Garage – if you’re a fan of JDM motoring, how couldn’t you be?  I’ve been to several locations, and while you may not always find something that catches your eye, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll find a nice set of wheels.  The new headquarters in Aobodai isn’t a wheel specific location, nevertheless I was surprised to see so many wheels and tires on site.  Check out a few past the break.

Feature: JCCS Celica GT

.

Before I set sails across the Pacific, I thought I’d revisit a car from JCCS.  This 2-door, hardtop Celica GT coupe stole the show for me at JCCS.  This model of Celica was first made in the 1970’s and heavily influenced by the late 60’s, early 70’s Ford Mustang.  A cheaper alternative to Toyota’s sports car, the 2000GT, the Celica became massively popular.  This particular one was in great condition.
