Feature: Zesty Racing Z33 Demo Car

Zesty Racing has always had a large presence at the Goodluck Festival event at Sportsland Sugo.  Goodluck Festival is the annual event that Attack uses to piggyback off of each year to kick off the Attack Season with the aptly named ‘Attack Tohoku’ event.  With Zesty Racing being headquartered just 30 minutes north of the circuit, Sugo is very  much their local track.  Each year, everyone from the boss himself, his techs and customers come out to enjoy the unique circuit with their personal cars and shop cars.

This Z33 is one of the shop demo cars, and one we see annually at this event.  As an extended courtesy, the shop makes it available for customers to rent for the day.  This year, Otomo Atsuhito was behind the wheel again, in search of improving his time from last year.

The car now features the new Zesty Racing widebody kit with some serious tire fitted underneath. Replacing the 265 series Advans from prior years, the car now has 315 series Hoosiers on a new set of much wider wheels. Despite the weather and normal engine settings, Atsuhito was able to set a new best time of 1’35.676.  With the increased tire size alone, I’m sure this car could break into the 34’s in better conditions.

The engine remains almost completely untouched, aside from an exhaust and a mild tune, and outputs a very mild 280ps at the crank.  At 1,200kg that’s not too much to work with, but makes for a great car to hone your skills in – not having power to mask your mistakes is a good way to accumulate driving experience.  Atsuhito double registered with both events so he was really putting the Z through its paces this day, having almost no down time on track.  I was able to ask him for a few minutes of his time to take some photos of the car away from the paddock.

While we work to finish the edits for the Attack Tohoku event post, be sure to head over to our YouTube channel to watch the event video.

The wing is a custom unit from Zesty Racing.  They do offer it for sale, but on a made to order basis.  It is one of the cleaner looking chassis mounted wings I’ve seen of this style.

Yes, that’s a Race Logic Drift Box taped to the dashboard, the data logger that writes to an SD card.

This wheel is a 18×10.5j +18, which fits the 315 series Hoosier surprisingly well.  I’d imagine that the body kit was designed to fit a 10.5j or 11j wheel with a low offset without the need for spacers.
