Event: Attack Tohoku 2023 – Sportsland Sugo Event Gallery

Late October marks the time in Japan where temperatures begin to drop and more ideal track conditions allow drivers to get back behind the wheel after the off season.  As previously mentioned in our video post, the event is typically a bit more laid back than other Attack events.  It’s the first major time attack event of the season, and I think everyone’s excitement trumps any other feeling in the paddock.    Also, because the event is paired with the Goodluck Festival, the Super Lap driver list is usually a bit shorter and contains a wide variety of skill levels.  That’s not to say the drivers aren’t as focused, plenty of new course records have been set during this event, but maybe its because the group of drivers is a bit more closely knit that tensions don’t seem as high.  Sugo’s distance from the Tokyo metropolitan area is pretty far, so you have to really love the track to dedicate the time to get out there.

We covered a lot of information in the video (linked below if you haven’t yet watched it), so instead of extensively covering the event in an article, we translated and compiled a PDF of the Attack drivers times for easy reference, and focused on just making a more detailed gallery for your viewing.  Of course, if you have any questions feel free to comment below.  We have over 100 photos with some notable captions from the event –  we hope you enjoy!

The traditional Attack event drivers photos are a good way to loosen everyone up in the morning.

Registration included a MAX canned coffee.

Daisuke Aoki is the Attack event organizer and you’d be hard pressed to find him without his megaphone.

Autobahn boss and master engine builder, Kawai-san.

Sato’s EG with a few aero upgrades for the year.

Yoshitaka’s new engine, built by Arvou, uses a new 2.45 liter bottom end, slightly increasing displacement from last season.  Capable of producing close to 350hp in an S2000 that weighs just under 1,000kg is pretty incredible, and will put him in a position to be competitive against ASM’s new build.

Also new for this season are the side skirts and some updated front aero.

Sunset over Sugo to close out the weekend.

Thanks for viewing.
