Gallery: The ASM AP1 S2000 CAR 1 Returns To Tsukuba

As you must know by now, ASM has a long history in Japan’s NA Class of Time Attack.  Long before the Attack series even existed, the ASM team had dominated the NA class in their GT-06 S2000 build (Car #2), holding the NA title for over a decade; a 57.398 set in 2006 at Rev Speed Super Lap Battle.  Development of the newer Car #1 would see the team set the first S2000 to ever hit the 56 second lap time (56.875) in February of 2019 – at the height of the NA S2000 battles.  Soon after the team abruptly halted development of the car.

After a long 5 year hiatus from the circuit, Shinichiro Kanayama and the ASM team have returned to Tsukuba with the ASM S2000 Car #1. With this being the first year of the cars return, not much has changed.  Check out the new gallery and last week’s video to see some of the differences and feel free to reference the below links for more info.

The video and gallery were shot shot during the Pingu Attack practice event the day before Attack Tsukuba’s main event, as well as some photos from the actual Attack event.  It was really great to see this car back on track.  For a detailed look into the history of the ASM S2000, as well as the other NA Frontrunners at Tsukuba, please visit the following articles:

I did my best to highlight the new features of the S2000 in this gallery.  The fluid look of the Succeed Sports rear wing, and the extended 3d front splitter both give the car a more modern, aggressive appearance than its predecessor.  I won’t go into too much detail here, because I’ve already written extensively on ASM and this car – please reference the above links.  At Attack, with Hiroki Katoh behind the wheel once again, the team spent most of the day getting caught up on  how the car behaves on track.  Hiroki was able to clock a best of 57.252; about 4 tenths slower than their best.  All things considered, this was a great shakedown result for the car given the conditions.  I have no doubt that next year we’ll see this car drop into the mid 56’s at the least, and surpass their 2019 time.  Enjoy the gallery!
