Starting in late 2024, I began casually browsing AS Net looking to find a good condition stock body FD in Japan. The more I looked though, the more I realized that pretty much anything in good condition, that checked all the boxes, was going to be out of my budget. Understandably, these are now 30+ year old cars.
I eventually accepted that I would have to broaden my search to include widebodies so long as they were at least Grade 4 and met all my other requirements. I came across this particular FEED build and after some negotiation on price, ended up securing it with the help of my good friend Sekinei back in May, who then went and picked it up in Osaka to transport back to Yokohama. And so over the past few months I’ve been collecting parts for it, and now that I’m back in Japan after the off season I can begin working on making it my own.
The newly rebuilt 13B is normal port, single TD06 spec (period correct), and tuned with PFC it makes about 400ps. The interior is painfully 90s, even down to the jumpy analog gauges, broken PFC commander, and burned Maxwell CD with eurobeat tracks in the CD deck. I have a lot of plans for it, especially aesthetically, but want to be sure I document it in each stage along the way; even if the changes are minimal.
It’s rough around the edges, and needs some maintenance before it sees the circuit, but excited to have a new project here in Japan. Look forward to some more updates in the coming weeks as I get time to install some new parts. I know over the next few months I’ll be busy covering the Attack season, so I wanted to get as much done on the car as I could with the little time available.
In the newest episode of Off Season we take a closer look at the RX7 and knock out some maintenance and aesthetic items. Check out the video below!
